One-of-a-kind Soda Fired Pieces
Soda firing is a type of firing where the atmosphere inside the kiln influences the colors of the glazes and the clay itself, making each piece a work of art and magic.
This style of firing is different than electric kiln firing (how all my other pieces are fired) in a lot of ways! It takes about 3 full workdays to fire in this style - not to mention the time making the pieces themselves. It’s easier as a team! Even with a team, it still takes this much time, and that’s part of what makes the pieces so beautiful and one-of-a-kind.
The variety of pieces in the kiln, different glazes, clay bodies, and shapes, all factor into making these pieces look different in each firing. I could never guarantee certain colors on a piece, or how the soda ash we add during the firing will affect the clay and the glaze, and that’s what’s so fun. I will have a handful of these available in the future, but this is the largest set of soda-fired work I’ll have for a while. Enjoy this very limited collection!
